Sarajevo

Combine sightseeing in Sarajevo with exploring the pristine Bosnian nature. If visiting in winter, you can go to the ski resorts of Bjelasnica and Jahorina which hosted the 1984 Olympic Games and are only 30-45 minutes away by car.

In summer, try hiking or rafting. Discover the spectacular and otherwise impassable River Neretva by taking a whole-day rafting trip which will take you through completely uninhabited areas, or visit the canyon of Rakitnica, one of the deepest in Europe. All of this is an hour or two's drive from Sarajevo.

The most exciting times to visit Sarajevo are during the international theatre festival MESS in October, the Jazz Festival in November and the Sarajevo Film Festival in August, which has grown into the most prestigious regional film festival. Or spend the Christmas and New Year's season there when the city bursts with energy as young Sarajevans mingle with international partygoers in the city's many bars and outdoor events.
